Vocabulary
Vocabulary is important because it is the first step in developing a way to communicate with another human being on a deeper and more intellectual level. A person's vocabulary consists of a certain set of words within a language that are familiar to that person. Vocabulary increases with age as it serves as a fundamental process of understanding and connecting with those around you. An extensive Vocabulary is necessary for communication and acquiring knowledge and is one of the largest challenges in learning a second language.

English Language Learners
Vocabulary is the hardest literacy strategy to teach English Second Language Learners. It takes dedication from the teacher and perseverance from the student. It is extremely important that while teaching English literacy skills, culture is immersed as well. Teachers must draw on a child's schema in order for them to make connections and make what they are learning worthwhile.
